Christmas Recap

Our Christmas actually began on the 13th because we had my parents here visiting and because Valerie and Parker were going back to Utah with them on the 15th.   So we each opened a gift or two or three.

As mentioned earlier, Valerie, Bob and Parker went to Utah for Christmas this year.  So Dear Hubby and I got the job of dog sitting for them.  DH and I celebrated our Christmas in the usual way except it was just the two of us and the dogs... all four of them.

So you could say that it was a Doggone Good Christmas!  Here is the proof!  Woof woof woof woof!

Aren't they sweet?

The dogs had more gifts to open than we did!  Really!  As you can tell by this picture we had a dog toy revolution!

At noon DH and I headed over to Aunt Patsy's house for Christmas Lunch with some of the family.  We had a nice visit and excellent food.  It is nice to get to know DH's family a little more.  I am grateful to have a lot of in-laws around especially when I am missing my kids and my family so much.

Later that evening we were invited to Brad & Shelly's house (DH's brother), for Christmas Dinner, White Elephant gift exchange, and Games!  We had such a great time and are so thankful to Brad & Shelly for hosting this get-together.   Next year it will be held in our new home!

And this is a picture of my cool nephew who was showing us how he rocks on his new drum set.  And boy is he good!  Great job A!

I am so thankful for my DH's family for making Christmas really wonderful for me.  I will be honest and say that I was having a hard time being without my kids (again), and I was really missing my family... but Christmas turned out to be really nice and I am blessed and so grateful for my other family. I Love You All!

Nativity

A couple weeks ago Valerie and I went to the Arlington Texas Stake 17th Annual Nativity Display.  There were hundreds of nativities on display.  Here are my favorites....

This is the cutest nativity I have ever seen!

This one is such a beautiful piece and is my 2nd top favorite

This is my top favorite.  It is so detailed and beautiful!

Just Gorgeous and so Special!

We had a great time viewing the nativities and being entertained by the Texas Children's Choir... they were amazing!

Tis' the season and so I just wanted to share these with you.

Thanks for going with me Valerie
It was a fun day!

I Love my Sister!

Autumn on the Farm......

On Saturday I woke up to the most beautiful day so I took this picture to capture the moment.

This is Autumn at the Farm...

It was nice and warm and sunny. Sandals and Capri wearing weather! (I almost took a photo of me wearing my sandals, but I didn't).

And these are our Babies..... (Two of them anyway)
Meet Cinnamon and Baby Cakes

And this is Cesar
sunning in the pasture

I am so happy to say that it is December 1st (Already?) and I am still wearing my Sandals and Capri's... and I am not missing the snow at all!

It is supposed to be cold and rainy over the weekend and into next week so I will enjoy this while it lasts!

Christmas is around the corner and soon there will be a ground breaking on our new home.  Can't wait to get started!  And.... my parents are coming for a visit!  They will be here on Sunday (if the weather and roads are decent).

Lots to look forward to!

Now I just need to finish the Christmas shopping and start the baking and the candy making.

What are you looking forward to?

Favorite Kitchen Gadgets

I have three items in my kitchen that I love and use all the time.

The newest item in my kitchen is this beauty....

I received her for Christmas and I am in LOVE.  I love everything about this gadget including the color.  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!  I have used a sunbeam mixer for years and I have hated it from day one.  If you don't have a Kitchen Aid Mixer yet, I highly recommend you ask for one from Santa next year.  You will fall in love too!

This gadget is my next favorite.....

This is a  Pampered Chef Food Chopper.  It is my most used kitchen gadget.  I love it!  Now I have tried a few different brands of food choppers but those brands will never match up to the Pampered Chef  Brand.  I probably use this several times per week and sometimes several times per day.  I just got a new one for Christmas this year as my old one was used so much it started to fall a part.  Good thing they have a lifetime warranty!

This is a Salad Shooter.......

And this is a gadget that I have used for several years.  I use it mostly for the cheese grater, but it does a nice job of slicing your vegetables for Salad or Pizza. I use the cheese grater attachment at least once per week.  It's that good!

What are your favorite kitchen gadgets?

The Good and the Bad!

The GOOD

  • I made it on the Dean's List for achieving a recurring high GPA.  This makes me very happy because I have worked very hard.  Next goal is to make it on the Chancellor's List.
  • I only have one class this session. Really glad about this after having two very difficult classes last session.  This class is Professional Communications and it sounds like it will be good and fun.
  • Work is good for the most part.  It's nice to be able to just drive around town delivering parts all day and not get stuck in an office.  It is the perfect job to have while I am attending school full time.  It's also nice that it's located about 3 miles from my home.
  • The Holiday's were nice, peaceful and quiet around here.  It always comes and goes way too fast for my liking.  We enjoyed spending quality time together and that is what made it so nice.
  • I discovered Skype!  And I love it!  I was able to Skype with both sides of the family over the Holiday's.  I was so happy to even get to see my Grandmother via Skype whom I haven't seen since I moved here over a year and half ago.  This made being separated from family a little easier.

The BAD

  • I didn't get to spend Christmas with my kids after all.  Big disappointment!  It is a long and unpleasant story that has to do with ex-husband fighting me on my visitation rights and teenage kids that are stinkers.  Enough said!
  • Kyle informed us a couple days ago that he is moving out of our home on the 8th and on to Minnesota where his previous girlfriend lives.  Another Big Disappointment! Another long and sensitive story that I won't share here.
  • We missed out on seeing our Utah family over the Holidays.  Since I didn't get to have my kids for Christmas there was no reason to make the trip to Utah to pick them up.
  • I was sick for over 3 weeks with a terrible cough and nasal congestion.  Thank goodness I am finally getting over it but now it has struck my DH.  Ugh!
I was hoping the New Year would bring less unpleasant life changing events and more peace and contentment.  However, since it's only the 4th and I already know about two major events that affects me personally leads me to believe that wish is just not going to happen.

With that said, all I can do is take the advice of Church Leaders and  find the good and happy in each day.  So that is my goal for this year.  I will live day to day and seek out the happiness and goodness in those days. And I will hope that tomorrow will be a better one.

I'm dreaming of .... a White Christmas.....I mean a break!

Oh my goodness its been a long while since I've posted anything.  I hate not having the time to blog.  But school is really killing me right now!  This session, I've had an algebra class and a principles of business class.  Algebra alone was killer but add to that all the required assignments (usually 2 each)  from both classes due each week, and working a full-time job on top of that and I feel like I am going to pull my hair out.

I had math finals due yesterday and I didn't realize it was due yesterday until Thursday so I literally spent every waking hour that I wasn't at work, studying and preparing for my exam all weekend.  I'm stressed and I'm feeling a little down because I haven't had anytime to enjoy the holidays like I want.  But why am I complaining?  I chose this path so I will just shut up now.

Any hoo....  I have a 2 more assignments for each class due this week and then I will be on break until after the new year.  Thank Goodness!

So now you know what I have been doing.  What I haven't been doing is baking and making candy or shopping.  I am hoping to get started on that very soon.

I'm excited though because DH and I are driving to Utah on Friday to pick up my kids and bring them back up here for Christmas.  I am really looking forward to seeing them.

I am very proud of Shellise.  She was in her school play "White Christmas" which held their production every day last week.  She has to be beat!   I sure wish I could have seen her in that play, it is my favorite holiday production.

Shellise also takes ballroom dance and will be performing next weekend and I will get to see that performance while I am there.  I can't wait!

I hope to be able to finish my Christmas shopping, do some baking and make candy, and catch up on some much needed projects sometime soon, or maybe I won't.  For right now I have to get my school assignments done so I can enjoy the holidays.  Looking ahead to some wonderful quality time with my kids.
And I am looking ahead to some quality posts by me in the near future... maybe?  I hope.  Miss you all!

Happy Holidays!

There is sorrow in our hearts today.....

At our house, we have been struggling with some situations that have left us mourning the loss of an unborn baby.
A few weeks ago, I shared with you all the news that I was going to be another grandma, that my stepson and his wife (who were living with us) were expecting a baby in May.

Since that time, "his wife" decided that she did not want to be married anymore and just up and left one day, traveling back to Indiana to be with her family and ex-boyfriend(s).  We really didn't understand this and begged her to stay and to come back.  Lots of lies were brought to light that left Kyle and us just plain shocked.  This was difficult enough.

But then she had to throw something even bigger into the fire.  She decided that she didn't want the baby.  She also decided that she didn't want Kyle to have it either.  Instead she made the decision to have an abortion.  She was 16 weeks pregnant!  No amount of begging, pleading, trying to make her understand that what she would be doing was just plain murder, nothing we could say or do would change her mind.

Yesterday her family drove her to Chicago (the only place that will do late term abortions) and she had
the baby aborted.  We are all really sad and do not understand why anyone would do such a thing especially when that baby was wanted by the father and by grandparents.  Unfortunately, father's don't have any rights to unborn children.

We are in mourning over the loss of this precious baby that had fingers and toes and heartbeat.  The only thing that is getting us through is our faith in knowing that this child is in Gods hands and that we will see this baby someday.

I am also very thankful and happy that it is Christmas time.  Where the spirit of Christmas can enter our home and help to heal our hearts.

Christmas 2009

Most of you have already written your posts about your Christmas.  I know I am a bit behind all of you organized people.  But even though it may be a little late, I am still going to write my Christmas 2009 Review if for nothing else but journaling purposes.

Bill and I had a very nice and quiet Christmas together.  This is the first Christmas I have not been with my kids or family.  We opened the traditional PJ's on Christmas Eve.  On Christmas Day we slept in until about 9:00.  That's a first for me.  In Christmas's past we would have had Christmas over with by that time.  Anyway, we ate the traditional breakfast of my pull-apart bread with scrambled eggs and bacon.  And then we opened our gifts to each other.  I recieved some very nice gifts.  One of the things he gave me that is the most treasured of all the gifts is personalized cards he wrote in for me to open each month of the new year.  I can't wait to open my next one.  Thanks Babe!

We spent the day watching movies, going for a walk down main street in Bozeman, preparing and eating our Christmas dinner of prime rib.  Mmmmm!

The next morning on December 26th we drove 4 hrs to Idaho Falls and back to pick up my kids.  It's the halfway point between Bozeman and Salt Lake City.  We got back home around 9:00 pm and had Christmas with them.  They got to spend the rest of the week with us until Jan 2nd when we drove them back to Idaho Falls.

During the week they were here we mostly just hung out around the house.  We did venture out for a walk down main street.  Shellise loves the look of all the old buildings and she wanted to use the camera she got for Christmas to take pictures of old town Bozeman.  We went and saw the movie Avatar.  This movie was awesome!  We all loved it and I would recommend you go see it too.

Bill had to work on New Years Eve so the kids and I prepared a few fun snack foods and planned to play some games and watch movies.  However, by 9pm Shellise was asleep.  She was too tired to stay up to ring in the New Year so Jessie and I just watched a movie and then watched the Dick Clark Time Square Special.  Jessie had never seen the ball drop.  On New Years Day we did a little more celebrating with Bill and watched movies.  It was a quiet but nice New Year's for us.

I can't believe how quickly the time passed by.  Before I knew it, it was time to take the kids back.  And then the hard reality set in.  There is nothing to look forward to anytime soon. No big Holiday's coming up and  I probably won't see the kids again until summer.  Instead I get to continue looking for and hopefully find a job very soon.

We had a wonderful Christmas even though it wasn't what we would call "normal".  We missed being surrounded by family and friends.  However, I am very thankful for the wondeful memories that were made and that I was able to make those memories with those I love the most..... my dear sweet husband and my awesome kids.

Here is a slideshow of our Christmas....

A Break!

Just thought I would let you all know that our Christmas was great.  It was just Bill and I, so it was very quiet and definately not the norm.  It's the first year I have ever been completely away from my family and my kids.  Luckily, we picked up my two kids yesterday (Dec 26th) and had Christmas with them last night.

They are here as long as the weather holds out, until next Saturday.  For that reason, I will be taking a break from the bloggy world and will not be posting anything until after the New Year.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and I wish everyone a Happy New Year!

TTFN!

An Adventure with Grandma

I went to visit Grandma on the day my big sister dropped the bomb:  "There is not Santa Claus," she jeered.  "Even dummies know that!"  I fled to Grandma that day because I knew she would be straight with me. I knew Grandma always told the truth, and I knew that the truth always went down a whole lot easier when swallowed with one of her world-famous cinnamon buns.  I knew they were world-famous, because Grandma said so.  It had to be true.

Grandma was home, and the buns were still warm.  Between bites, I told her everything.

She was ready for me.  "No Santa Claus!" she snorted.  "Ridiculous!  Don't believe it.  That rumor has been going around for years, and it makes me mad.  Now, put on your coat, and let's go."

"Go where, Grandma?" I asked, wanting to finish my second world-famous, cinnamon bun.

'Where' turned out to be Kerby's General Store, the one store in town that had a little bit of just aobut everything.  As we walked through its doors, Grandma handed me ten dollars.  That was a bundle in those days.

"Take this money," she said, "and buy something for someone who needs it.  I'll wait for you in the car."  Then she turned and walked out of Kerby's.

I  was only eight years old.  I'd often gone shopping with my mother, but never had I shopped for anything all by myself.  The store seemed big and crowded, full of people scrambling to finish their Christmas shopping.  For a few moments I just stood there, confused, clutching that ten-dollar bill, wondering what to buy, and who on earth to buy it for.  I thought of everybody I knew:  my family, my friends, my neighbors, the kids at school and the people who went to my church.

I was just about thought out, when I suddenly thought of Bobby Decker.  He was a kid with bad breath and messy hair, and he sat right behind me in Mrs. Pollock's grade-two class.  Bobby Decker didn't have a coat.  I knew that because he never went out for recess during the winter.  His mother always wrote a note, telling the teacher that he had a cough, but all we kids knew that Bobby Decker didn't have a cough and he didn't have a coat.  I fingered the ten-dollar bill with growing excitement.  I would buy Bobby Decker a coat!

I settled on a red, corduroy coat that had a hood attached to it.  It looked really warm, and he would like that.  "Is this a Christmas present for someone?" the lady behind the counter asked kindly, as I laid my ten dollars down.

"Yes," I replied shyly.  "It's.... for Bobby."

The nice lady smiled at me.  I didn't get any change, but she put the coat in a bag and wished me a Merry Christmas.  That evening, Grandma helped me wrap the coat in Christmas paper and ribbons (a little tag fell out of the coat, and Grandma tucked it in her bible).  We wrote, "To Bobby, From Santa Claus" on it - Grandma said that Santa always insisted on secrecy.  Then she drove me over to Bobby's house, explaining as we went that I was now and forever officially one of Santa's helpers.

Grandma parked down the street from Bobby Decker's house, and she and I crept noiselessly and hid in the bushes by his front walk.  Then Grandma gave me a nudge.  "All right, Santa Claus," she whispered, "get going."

I took a deep breath, dashed for his front door, threw the present down on his step, pounded his doorbell and flew back to the safety of the bushes and Grandma.  Together we waited breathlessly in the darkness for the front door to open.  Finally it did, and there stood Bobby.

Fifty years haven't dimmed the thrill of those moments spent shivering, beside my Grandma, in Bobby Decker's bushes.  That night, I realized that those awful rumors about Santa Claus were just what Grandma said they were: ridiculous.  Santa was alive and well, and we were on his team.  I still have Grandma's Bible, with the tag tucked inside: $19.95.

For us at our house, Santa is very definately alive and well, and we are on his team.   Are you?

The Legend of the Christmas Candle

Long ago, in a small Austrian village, lived a poor cobbler and his wife.  They were very kind and generous - always sharing their few possessions with others.
Every Christmas Eve, they placed a lighted candle in their window to welcome those less fortunate, a symbol of their warmth, love and generosity.
When war, famine and destruction had fallen upon their village, the cobbler and his wife seemed to suffer far less than the other villagers.  Thinking perhaps the lighted candle was the reason for this, everyone placed a lighted candle in the window on Christmas Eve.
The very next morning, a messenger rode into the village with the wonderful news - peace had come!
When they had given thanks to God for this blessing of peace, the villagers vowed to place a candle in their windows on each Christmas Eve thereafter.
Since then the custom has spread all over the world, conveying a message of love, hope and peace.

May your days be happy, your heart be light, your Christmas merry, and the New Year bright!

It's Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at our house.  The decorations are up, the tree is decorated and candy and cookies are being made all in preparation for my favorite time of year.

Mmmmm..... I just love the Christmas feeling and the delicious sweet smell of my home at Christmas time.

We moved into a smaller home this year and so I wasn't able to use all of my decorations and we had to make space for the Christmas tree.  But it sure feels comfortable and cozy... just how I like it.

Just a few of my Nutcrackers

I Love Snowmen
