Oh give me a home, where the Buffalo roam

In order to get to some areas of federal land where there are hiking trails, one must cross Ted Turner's many properties.  He owns thousands upon thousands of acres all around this area.  On this particular day we were heading out to do some hiking in the Spanish Creek area and we had to cross Ted Turner's Ranch where there are literally thousands of free ranging buffalo.  They are everywhere, including on the road.  I could seriously reach out my window and touch them if I dared.  It was an amazing sight to see.  Better than the buffalo I've seen in Yellowstone.

There were buffalo of all ages.  We stopped and watched two old grand daddy buffalo butt heads with each other for a while.  Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of that.

We really enjoyed the drive.  The scenery was beautiful and to see all those buffalo up close and personal was just an amazing sight.   It reminds me of this song.....

Oh give me a home, where the buffalo roam
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day

Home, home on the range
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day

Oh my! They are huge! Other than the television, I've never seen buffaloes up close like this. How interesting.

Look at the beautiful greenery. :)

Your mentioning the buffalo on the road reminded me of our trip up to Wyoming a few years back and the buffalo on the road. We were traveling along and actually had to come to a stop as I was afraid one might step out in front of the car. Some beautiful country up that way. We stayed in Jackson Hole and if the cost of living wasn't so high it would have been a nice place to settle.
