Group Blog Thursday - Thanksgiving Recipe Swap

Our group blog this week is a Thanksgiving Recipe Swap.  I am excited because I just love getting new recipes and trying them out.   So join in the fun and post a recipe and link up with all the rest of us over at Stephanie's.

When I think of Thanksgiving, I think of Pies.  Yummy, Yummy Pies!  I know that most people would think of Turkey and Mashed Potatoes and all the side dishes that make the traditional meal... but not me.... I'll just jump right over the dinner and into the dessert.  I mean, come on, what is Thanksgiving without Pies?

Today I am going to share with you a favorite recipe that many people in my family and our friends really love.  Because it is a favorite, several (more than 6) of these pies are made for our Thanksgiving each year.  I can't take all the credit though... it's my mother's recipe... so THANKS MOM!

Mud Pie

1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2/3 cup flour
1/3 cup cocoa
2 eggs
2-1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup margarine or butter
1 tsp vanilla
1-2 Cooked Pie Crust(s)

Mix sugar, salt, flour and cocoa together well.  Add the eggs.
Heat milk slowly in microwave.  Add 1/2 of the milk to mixture above.  Mix well.  Add rest of milk.
Cook on low heat, covered, stirring often.
When thickened good (it will be lumpy) take off heat and beat with beaters until smooth.
Add the margarine and vanilla.  Chill in fridge.
Then add to cooked pie crust.
Top with whipped cream if desired.

That looks yummy! A restaurant near us called Santa Fe serves something called Dirt Cake. It's served in a planter and involves chocolate pudding, Oreos, and gummy worms. Here's an image:

It looks fabulous, wish you were here to help me make all of the pies for Thanksgiving. But that pie is the favorite one and there needs to be plenty. I might even have to same day a piece to Elder Spencer in the MTC, not sure if Post Net still does that, but we'll see. Have fun making pies and have a Happy Thanksgiving. Love Ya.
